Out of all of Bravo's celebrity superfans, Jerry O'Connell is definitely one of the most passionate. You'll see exactly what we mean when you tune in to his new talk show, Bravo's Play by Play, where he's dishing on all of the drama in your favorite shows.
But if you're like us and you've spent many a night up late wondering how exactly Jerry's love of all things Bravo began, we finally know the origin story. "My wife [Rebecca Romijn] was watching [The Real Housewives of Orange County] a little bit, and I sort of watched a little bit of that. My wife was watching [The Real Housewives of New Jersey], and I was watching a little bit of it," Jerry recently told The Daily Dish on the Play by Play set. "And then Teresa Giudice flipped that table and referred to Danielle Staub as a 'prostitution whore.' And I remember, I was like, I got out of bed, and I was standing up, and I was like, 'What is going on?' And I was just into all of it then. And then I just watched all of them. That was it."
Jerry will be joined by a panel of esteemed Bravo fans on Play by Play, including former UFC fighter Brendan Schaub, Esquire's editor-at-large Dave Holmes, and TV host and comedian Michael Yo, who all said they were similarly hooked after experiencing the likes of RHOC, RHONJ, and The Real Housewives of Atlanta when The Daily Dish caught up with them on the set of the talk show. And every Bravo fan is sure to relate to their passion for these shows. "There's a lot of guys that are gonna tune in, be like, 'Damn, that's me too, man!'" Brendan told The Daily Dish. "Everyone knows the Bravo shows. And they have their favorites. And we decided to get together and talk about it. It's fun."
Dave added that he hopes Play by Play encourages others to show their Bravo love. "If we can remove the guilt from the pleasure, then that's our job," he said.
And watching Play by Play will be the perfect outlet for you to do exactly that. "We're the Meet the Press of Bravo news," Jerry said. "When you watch these shows, it almost becomes a reflection of your own life, and you insert yourself into these situations and it's almost just as much fun to watch them when they make you angry as it is when they make you happy. And this is just sort of our weekly sounding board. Like everyone else, we have opinions. I really find it fun."
Though we're going to see the Play by Play crew discuss the buzziest fights on Bravo these days, let's just say they have a very different way of handling disagreements than many Bravolebs. "I think it comes down to one thing: People watch these reality shows because they're really friends in the end ... They may fight and disagree and have different opinions, but at the end, they're friends," Michael told The Daily Dish. "And I think that pretty much summarizes this table. We're gonna have different opinions, we'll argue sometimes about things, but at the end, we're a family, and we all love each other."
