Paris Hilton's Secret to Success? Her Famous Family, of Course

The perfume designer and "it" girl opens up about her life as a mogul and icon.

Paris Hilton is the definition of a multi-hyphenate. Reality star. Beauty and fashion icon. Pop star and DJ. Socialite and heiress. And, of course, perfume and skincare designer. And with the release of her 24th(!!) perfume, Platinum Rush, the forever "it" girl is just as excited as ever by her jet-setting life.

"This is just how my life is all the time so I never stop. I’m in a different country almost every other week or every couple days and I’m running such a huge empire with just a lot of responsibilities, a lot of work dedication. I’m just used to it. I’ve been in this business for two decades now, so it’s just a part of my life, and I love what I do. I feel like when you love what you do, it doesn’t even feel like work, even though it is a lot," the entrepreneur recently told The Daily Dish. "I never could’ve imagined that it would be at this level. All of my dreams have come true and more. I always knew I was gonna do big things, like I always had that in me since I was a little girl, but I had no idea it would be this huge."

Huge, indeed, and even Paris can't always wrap her head around the enormity of the empire she's built, which is why she also can't believe she's 24 fragrances deep. "That’s an exciting moment," she said of releasing Platinum Rush. "And now I just created three more that are coming out. I guess when I was a little girl I always loved perfume and I always thought I would have one. I was like, 'Mom, one day I’m gonna have a Paris Hilton perfume,' but never in my wildest dreams would I ever think that I had 24; that’s amazing."

And when it comes to testing out her products and her ideas, she definitely relies on the members of her very-famous family (like The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Kyle Richards, for instance?) for their input. "I always get my mom and my sister's advice on everything every time I’m coming up with a new perfume," she said. "I’ll create a couple different ones and then I’ll get their opinion on which one they like the best. My mom [Kathy Hilton], she taught me about skincare so when I was creating [Paris Hilton Skin Care ProD.N.A] with just my scientists, I definitely got her advice and input on that because she’s the skincare queen like me."

Yes, even Paris can't believe she has scientists on speed dial. "I love it. They’re just so brilliant, and it’s amazing working with people who are experts in that area so I feel like I’m a scientist, a perfume scientist, and I needed skincare scientists because they obviously know everything about skincare scientifically," she said. "It's amazing just to work with so many brilliant people and to just come out with these products that are just so masterfully successful around the world, and it makes me feel like a brilliant businesswoman."

And with so much on her plate, it's easy to make the argument that the version of celebrity we see today really started with Paris, who is also be one of the subjects of the upcoming doc, The American Meme. If you tell her that, she won't be quick to argue with you about it.

"I think I was a pioneer, the one who created just this whole new celebrity genre before it even existed. When I was a teenager [and] when I moved to New York, everyone was like, 'Oh my god, she’s famous for being famous.' And now it’s like a whole blueprint and a whole formula of fame," she said. "And it just kind of changed society with celebrity. So it feels amazing to be the first and to be an inspiration to young women and men all around the world that they can, you know, build their brand and become a celebrity off reality TV or social media. It just makes me feel really proud."
